Propella

Propella is one of the first business hubs in South Africa to be fully geared for Business 4.0.

Propella Business Incubator provides enterprise development support to innovators with disruptive technologies that results in increasing global competitiveness for manufacturers located in the Eastern Cape. Propella Business Incubator seeks to grow the critical mass of innovators in the region, and therefore encourages entrepreneurs to remain in the region and contribute to the regional economy.

Propella Business Incubator is a partnership between Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), Engeli Enterprise Development and other private sector partners, e.g. Telkom. The incubator and accelerator commenced operations in November 2015.

Girls in STEM

Girls in STEM was launched in partnership with the Nelson Mandela University, as a 1year STEM programme funded by the US Consulate in Cape Town for Grade 9 high school girls in Port Elizabeth. The objective of this programme was to introduce high school girls to different professions in STEM, with the aim of encouraging them to include science and/or maths in their subject choice.

Africa4Future

Africa4Future is a joint business accelerator of Airbus and GIZ’s Make-IT in Africa initiative, together with the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) Africa, an entrepreneurial training programme, seed fund and Pan-African incubator and Innocircle, the South Africa-based innovation consultancy. It is dedicated to African tech startups that are actively working on aerospace-based solutions to meet Africa’s most pressing challenges. We are proud to state that our relationship with Africa4Future commenced in September 2017 and saw the successful delivery of the first two cohorts.

Merck

A network across Africa.

In September 2019 we designed and hosted the South African “Joint Start-up Program” Meetup on behalf of the GIZ, Make IT Initiative and the Merck Accelerator focusing on E-health solutions for African start-ups. The program provides business mentorship and access to markets for the participating start-ups. The Merck Accelerator partners with African start-ups to accelerate local solutions in shaping the future.

Telkom FutureMakers

FutureMakers is Telkom’s enterprise and supplier development programme.

Launched in May 2015, it has made significant progress in supporting strategic start-ups and existing small businesses as well as other entrepreneurial ventures aligned to the technology sector and the Telkom value chain.

Our team launched and headed up Telkom’s Futuremakers Hub in Nelson Mandela Bay up until October 2017. We are proud to kick off a new virtual accelerator in January 2020.

Inspiring Fifty

Inspiring Fifty is an initiative that benchmarks and awards the 50 most inspiring women in the field of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). These trailblazers, innovators and boss women play a major role in challenging the industry’s norms of what makes a leader. The Inspiring Fifty are important role models for encouraging more girls and women in technology, as well as inspiring future leaders and entrepreneurs to follow in their footsteps.

Inspiring Fifty identifies, encourages, develops, and showcases women in leadership positions within the technology sector.

Silicon Cape

The Initiative is a Cape Town-based non-profit organisation bringing together tech entrepreneurs, developers, investors and other stakeholders,which aims at assisting people with ICT ideas and entrepreneurs to avoid the many pitfalls associated with ICT start-ups in South Africa.

Silicon Cape is an NPO and an ecosystem enabler for tech-enabled startups in the boarder Cape Region of South Africa.

Entrepreneurs in South Africa face many obstacles including access to finance, punishment for previous failure, lack of global experience, no liquidity events and others.

Silicon Cape aims at assisting people with ICT ideas and entrepreneurs to avoid the many pitfalls associated with ICT start-ups in South Africa.
